The CCEB in the University of Newcastle
The Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB) at the University of Newcastle is a first generation training center established at the same time as the other CCEBs in the University of Pennsylvania and University of North Carolina in the United States and McMaster University in Canada. CCEB in Newcastle, Australia being the nearest training center in the Southeast Asian region was instrumental in training a number of the members of the INCLEN-SEA in Clinical Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Pharmacology, Social Sciences and Economics. In 2000, INCLEN had a major reorganization resulting to the shift of leadership from the developed countries to developing countries and the strengthening of regional networks or regionalization. The shift to regionalization has been crucial in paving the way for CCEB, Newcastle membership in INCLEN-SEA. The duly recognized CERTC headed by Dr. Julie Byles was invited by Dr. Pyatat Tatsanavivat, then Coordinator for INCLEN-SEA, to be part of the regional network in Southeast Asia and became the 15th member of INCLEN-SEA in March, 2001.
